Hello, my name is Sarah Rose, I am a TY Student and did my work experience as an assistant at Atlantic Scuba Adventures in Spring 2024.

My TY Work Experience

Day 1 I met Carol and got started straight away. She started off telling me about the different signals to use in the water, what we could possibly see and how to use the equipment and to be mindful of all the creatures.

Then we went down to Coral beach. As I had never gone snorkelling before it was tricky but easy once i got the hang of it. It was scary at first, but it was so much fun.

After the snorkel we did a beach clean, we found lots of different things but there was especially a lot of plastic.

Day 2 I took a marine ecology course online with Kirsty. I learned all about marine ecosystems and different science disciplines. I received a certificate for completing the course.

I then started working on my presentation and deciding on a topic, eventually i decided on doing it on octopi as they are my favourite marine animal. I learned lots of key skills including PowerPoint creation and researching on a topic.

Day 3 was a very busy day. In the morning, we went for a snorkelling session. By then I had gotten the hang of it, it was very interesting and exciting.

When we got back i learned how to use Canva to create content and how to edit social media for a workplace, as Carol is the social media manager I learned a lot from her.

Day 4 I met Tom. We did a course on fish identification. I learned a lot of scientific names and the different species and habitats of fish.

It was really cool learning about the variety of species both at home and around the world, Tom had worked in lots of places like Fiji and New Zealand and had lots of knowledge on species found there.

Day 5 We went snorkeling and saw many star fish and crabs. We filmed a lot underwater. We also did lots of workshops on cleaning, equipment, content creation, and presenting.

All in all I had so much fun during my TY work experience program with ASA.
